Ohhhh nooo, not the hammer drill (ka – ching)

The stone masons are true artisans and I am in awe. Will these walls really be straight?? Large steel beams provide the compression strength for the stone walls. How did these manage to get down to the site – we will never know.

Cistern walls get poured, wooden forms for the arched windows and doors take their place. The digging continues and the fruits of that digging yield – more stone that needs to be broken up by hand so the masons can place them in the walls.

We are rising from the earth but still the main level of the house has yet to appear.

The gazebo makes an appearance as does the structure that will be an infinity edge swimming pool when it grows up.

A major life saver in this world of concrete was the ability to batch concrete on site. Usually concrete trucks would have to come out east from Majestic concrete and the builder would be at the mercy of the arrival of the liquid gold. The quality of the concrete could be compromised if the truck took too long to get to the site. We were able to have a flat staging area with a supply of gravel, sand and water and a supplier with a little 6 yard concrete mixer located ¼ mile down the road so he could mix and deliver concrete on demand as it was needed. This helped keep the project moving quickly with little down time.

The main level is finally formed. Yahoo! a flat area where the guys could work soon come.
